Synthetic Calcium Silicate

We have developed-Synthetic Calcium Silicate (SCS), using lime & silica as raw materials. 

SCS is a white free-flowing inert amorphous powder or granule and is used as functional filler, carrier & pigment extender meeting wide range of demand in industries. 

The unique chemical and physical properties of SCS stresses emphasis on “functional” rather than “filler”.  It has applications in Insecticide, Plant, Paper, Plastic, Printing Ink, Rubber & other industries and will provide significant cost and/or performance benefits over conventional fillers like Precipitated Silica, Aluminium Silicate, etc.  

The important characteristics are:

         Light-weight (Low bulk density-90 kg./m³)

         High Oil Adsorption (upto 320%)

         High Water Adsorption (upto 400%)

         Free from health hazardous substances (can be used as food additive)

         High Surface Area (130 m²/gm.)

         Excellent Flowability 

         Fine Particle Structure (less than 10 mili micron)  

Supply: 

World Minerals (Manville), Lompoc, California, U.S.A. is the only known international manufacturer of Synthetic Calcium Silicate via this route.  We understand from published reports that capacity of their plant is approximately 20,000 tons per year.  The current reported CIF, Bombay price is US $ 700 per ton (approx. Rs. 0.30 lac per ton) for SCS. 

Demand: 

It has applications in Concrete, Insecticide, Paint ,Paper, Plastic, Printing Ink, Rubber & other industries and will provide significant cost and/or performance benefits over conventional fillers like Precipitated silica, Aluminium Silicate, etc. 

The contemporary advancements in concrete & construction technology all over the world are focused more on performance than specifications. SCS increase basic strength & therefore performace & durability of concrete due to high surface area (150 gm/M² min.) & low particle size (30 to 50 mili micron). 

The product is being used extensively in SEA BRIDGES, FLYOVERS,METROS, CRITICAL ROADS, HIGH RISE BUILDINGS, AIR-FIELD PAVEMENTS, etc.  It will have a ready potential in India about 30,000 tons value Rs. 900 millions per year and excellent export possibilities.
